REMEMBERING SCOTT EDWARD STORZ“TREASURE EACH DAY”

With great sadness, the Storz Family announces the death of Scott Edward Storz on 2/16/2023 after a brief illness.

Scott was an Oregonian and a graduate of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. As an Alumni, he was a diehard Oregon Duck sports fan. He served as an Oregon State Trooper and a Eugene Police Officer before coming to DeLand, Florida.

He worked in the banking industry for Barnett Bank, SouthTrust Bank, and Wachovia Bank. He continued his law enforcement career for the past 16 years, as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst for the Central Florida High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program assigned to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Volusia Bureau of Investigation (VBI).

As a criminal intelligence analyst, Scott was exceptional. He taught and mentored hundreds of analysts and investigators during his career and served as Guest Speaker at the Central Florida HIDTA annual drug conferences.

Scott positively impacted countless people over his life, both professionally and personally. He was dedicated to public safety and was a force both respected and admired by all of the lives he touched.

Scott was a community volunteer for many years, donating his time to the West Volusia Historical Society and th DeLand Naval Air Station Museum (DNASM). He was a past President and Treasurer for the DNASM and was currently serving as Secretary and Special Projects Manager. He was a spokesperson and coordinator for museum programs, handled social media, community outreach, and gave public presentations promoting the DNASM. His favorite event was the Big Band Hanger Dance fundraiser. His passions included finding and recovering WWII military aircraft and personal effects from aircraft that crashed in the local area during flight training at the DeLand Naval Air Station 1942-1946. These searches often brought closure even after 80 years to families that were able to learn and share more about their loved ones who are now honored in the museum.

Scott was preceded in death by his wonderful father, WWII Navy Veteran Gene Edward Storz, who passed away on 12/2/2022 at the age of 99. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, DeLand native, Barbara Dunn Storz. Memorial donations can be made to the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum, 910 Biscayne Boulevard, DeLand, Florida 32724, or online at www.delandnavalairmuseum.org
