Volusia County Government, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and coastal cities have scheduled an extended office hours open house to address emergency permitting for temporary and permanent repairs on coastal structures due to Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. The open house will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Daytona Beach Shores Community Center, 3000 Bellemead Drive.
Representatives will be available to answer questions and assist with state and local emergency permitting, especially concerning seawalls, sand sources and walkover repairs. Residents, consulting engineers and contractors are encouraged to attend so city, county and state employees can guide them through the process.
“Any resident who suffered coastal property damage and has questions about the permitting process is strongly encouraged to attend,” said Volusia County Growth and Resource Management Director Clay Ervin. “Staff representing multiple levels of government will be in the same room at the same time to speak individually to our impacted residents.”
Residents are also advised to contact city staff for permitting requirements within Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach and Ponce Inlet. Those who live in unincorporated areas should contact the county.
