Sex Offender Wayne Hibbs (lewd or lascivious conduct, victim under 16) absconded from registration when he was released Jan. 26 following his acquittal on a charge of 2nd degree murder.

Hibbs (DOB 12/23/1967) made contact with old friends at 3753 West International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, on the night of his release, but then left the area the next morning.

Hibbs failed to register his new address with our Career Criminal Unit within 48 hours of his release from jail, and was thought to be transient in the area.

Detectives contacted Hibbs via a cell number provided by a friend, and he stated he’d come in Tuesday to register. He failed to show up.

This afternoon, detectives tracked down Hibbs standing at a bus stop in the 500 block of Ridgewood Avenue in Holly Hill. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he’s now in custody with $10,000 bond on a charge of failure to properly register as a sex offender.
