From January 28, 2023 post.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood presented sign-on bonus checks to these deputies who recently joined VSO.

Signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, a $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for all new Florida law enforcement officers, including Florida residents who are new to the career AND current law enforcement officers relocating to Florida.

Interested? Tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 28), we’re hosting an exciting, comprehensive law enforcement Career Fair with live demonstrations from specialized units, candidate interviews and potential job offers at the VSO Training Facility.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3901 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach. The schedule includes demos and displays starting at noon from units like Air One, SWAT, Bomb, K-9, Marine, and the Aerial Response Team.

Deputy candidates are encouraged to come see what’s possible in a career with VSO. Qualified applicants may be subject to a PAT (Physical Agility Test) as part of the screening process. Gym clothes with tennis shoes are required for the PAT; there will be locker room facilities available for those who decide to complete the PAT on Saturday.

The agency is looking to hire exceptional candidates who are new to law enforcement AND/OR experienced law enforcement officers looking for a change.

Brand-new recruits with no law enforcement experience will attend the approximately 8-month VSO Training Academy while earning a salary and full benefits.

Training and Human Resources staff will be on site throughout Saturday’s event to answer questions and provide tours of the facility. For more info, check out BecomeADeputy.com!
