Stetson University issued the following announcement on July 30.

Top Stories:

• Asal Johnson, PhD, associate professor of Public Health, and her husband Allen Johnson, PhD, assistant professor of Public Health and director of the Master of Public Health program at Rollins College, were interviewed for the July 29 article, “Public health pros answer your COVID-19 vaccine questions,” in the West Volusia Beacon. “COVID-19 cases are increasing exponentially in Florida and also in Volusia County. … The vast majority of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths are among unvaccinated individuals,” they said.

• Law Professor Robyn Powell wrote the July 26 article, “Disabled People Still Don’t Have Reproductive Freedom,” on damemagazine.com. “Since my mid-20s, I have been offered a hysterectomy by my doctors more times than I can count,” Powell wrote. “These offers are not being made based on medical necessity — there is no reason to believe that a pregnancy would be dangerous for me or a future baby — but instead, an assumption that I should not have children. Unfortunately, my experiences are not unique; they reflect an enduring belief that disabled people, like myself, are unfit to raise children.”

• Carmen Johnson, JD, was profiled July 27 in the story, “Stetson University Announces New Executive Officer for Diversity, Inclusion and Collaboration,” on patch.com. President Christopher F. Roellke, PhD, also was quoted in the article.

• Bill Nylen, PhD, professor of Political Science, was quoted in the story, “Cuban roots: Locals stand in solidarity with protesters seeking freedom, basic resources,” in the July 22 Daytona Beach News-Journal.

• Law Professor Louis Virelli was quoted in the July 27 story, “Capitol riot hearing gives Americans the chance to learn why and how the attack happened, experts say,” on wtsp.com and WCNC-TV Online.

• Stuart Michelson, PhD, Roland and Sarah George Professor of Finance and chair of Finance, was quoted in the July 27 article, “Should Investors Have Multiple Brokerage Accounts?” on Yahoo! Finance and several other media outlets.

• Wendy Anderson, PhD, professor of Environmental Science and Studies, wrote the column, “Imagine West Volusia: The Southridge legacy,” for the July 27 West Volusia Beacon.

• Alumnus and former Stetson baseball player Nick Rickles, who is playing for Israel in the Tokyo Olympics, was profiled July 29 on TV stations WPTV and WFLX-TV.

• Law alumnus John Hornbeck was profiled in the July 27 article, “The Times’ recommendations for St. Petersburg City Council,” in the Tampa Bay Times.

• Trenam Law announced that Law alumnus Gregory S. DeMeuse joined the firm as associate. He is a resident in the firm’s St. Petersburg office and is a member of the firm’s Real Estate and Lending Practice Group.

• The Polk County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the selection of Stetson alumnus Randy Mink as the next County Attorney, according to Lake Wales News.

• Carlton Fields announced that Law alumna Kai Su joined the firm’s Business Litigation Practice as an associate.
