Renovations to convert Training Center into fire station

Volusia County issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.

It’s called fire station 15. However, the building on Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach is primarily used by Volusia County Fire Rescue as a training site.

But that’s about to change.

The county has plans for an addition and renovations that will convert the building into a functional fire station. The plans include a two-story, approximately 3,400-square-foot addition on the east side of the apparatus bay. The addition will include space for new restrooms, lockers, bunks, equipment storage, an emergency operations room and a room for meetings, conferences and training. On Tuesday, the County Council unanimously approved a $125,000 contract for engineering and design of the addition. The work is being done by Schenkel Shultz Architecture, Inc., of Orlando.

“I think it’s very important,” said Councilwoman Heather Post. “This is huge, I think, for those employees and certainly for us moving forward and getting our station well equipped.”

The actual construction work is expected to cost approximately $1 million.
