Become a climate smart Floridian

Volusia County issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

Residents can learn how they can reduce their environmental impacts during a free, six-part series of programs from March 9 to April 2. 

Topics include climate change and how it relates to water resources, green building, home energy, renewable energy, yards, food, water, transportation and consumption with a special focus on issues that impact Volusia County.

Virtual programs will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on these Wednesdays:

  • March 9: Florida climate change and Volusia resiliency efforts
  • March 16: Water and yards
  • March 23: Food and waste
  • March 30: Transportation
The group will meet for in-person field trips from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on these Saturdays:

  • March 26: Stetson Aquatic Center, 2636 Alhambra Ave., DeLand
  • April 2: Longleaf Pine Preserve, 3736 E. New York Ave., DeLand
The series is sponsored by Lyonia Environmental Center, Green Volusia and the University of Florida/Volusia County Extension.
