Congratulations to George Marks Elementary principal, Shannon Young, who was nominated by the George Marks Elementary PTA for The Junior Service League of DeLand's "DeLand Woman of the Year" recognition ceremony.
“I want teachers to know they are appreciated for their efforts, and I want our students to know they are loved and cared for,” Shannon said. “When families enter the school, I want them to feel invited and know they are welcome, just as stated in our mission statement, “Where We All Succeed Together.”
Shannon recently led her staff and school community through a new school build. And thanks to business partnerships, community support, and donations, George Marks is in the process of building a barn on campus.
“I wanted to build something on this side of Volusia that would support and feed into our Ag programs at the middle and high schools for students,” she said.
