Volusia County Schools maintains its B district grade

The Florida Department of Education released the 2021-22 School Grades, District Grades, and School Improvement Ratings today. Volusia County Schools maintained its B district grade, after a hiatus of grades in 2020-21, with 43% of schools rated A or B.

This is the sixth year that a more rigorous learning gains methodology was used which requires that students make meaningful gains toward grade-level performance and beyond. “Volusia County Schools will continue to engage our students in learning that will transform their lives and experiences,” stated Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin.

Overall, Volusia’s grades are as follows (including charter schools):

  • A – 9 schools
  • B – 22 schools
  • C – 31 schools
  • D – 7 schools
  • F – 0 school
  • I – 5 schools
The total percentage of possible points earned in VCS increased by 5 percentage points and is now the same as the district pre-COVID-19. The district and schools will complete a comprehensive review and analysis of the data to determine successful instructional practices.

A school's grade is calculated based on components including achievement, learning gains, graduation rate, and college and career acceleration according to the Department of Education.

The mission of Volusia County Schools is to ignite a passion for learning in all students to be productive citizens.
