Stetson Women's Soccer to open ASUN play on the road

Hatter women's soccer will travel North for a pair of conference matches taking on Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia, Thursday and to Charlotte facing Queens on Sunday. Both matches will be available on ESPN+ with links in this article and on the schedule page.

"This is like the second part of the season," head coach Chris Bergmann said "Conference is what ultimately matters and is part of our goal, to win in conference and get to the national tournament. It's a mind set and it changes at this point. The team understands the competitiveness with these matches. You have to compete and attack at the next level with coming together even stronger. The team understands these are conference games on the road, we trained incredibly hard today [Tuesday] knowing the game plan we want to execute against both opponents, so it comes down to playing for each and to keep moving forward."

It will be both teams first ASUN Conference match at Osborne Stadium Thursday night. The Flames enter the match at 4-3-1 overall with streak of two losses following a Pennsylvania away trip that saw Liberty fall by a single goal to both Penn State and Pitt. LU has had a share of scorers on the season with 10 players recording a goal paced by three from redshirt senior midfielder McKinley Burkett. The Lynchburg-based squad has had the better of the Hatters in the overall meetings winning three with one draw.

Sunday will feature the first time Queens and Stetson will meet on the pitch. The Royals open ASUN conference play Thursday, same as Stetson, and the Hatters will be their second ASUN match. Entering the weekend, QU is sitting at 0-3-3 coming off a trip to Knoxville, Tennessee and a 6-0 loss to the Lady Vols. Excluding the Tennessee game, Queens had a stingy defense, surrendering four goals in five matches; however, at the offensive side, the first-year in division one program has only had one goal scored through six games, with potential to change Thursday. The lone tally was by senior forward Nia Gaither at Morehead State on September 4.
