Taylor Taft, 29, of Deltona was arrested on April 15 after being identified as the shooter in a road-rage incident that took place earlier that morning on State Road 415 in the Osteen area, according to Volusia County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident did not result in any injuries. The victim reported that around 8 a.m., a white Honda Civic cut him off and began brake-checking and swerving. The driver of the Civic then pointed a black Glock handgun at him. As the victim tried to distance himself by accelerating, he heard a loud pop and noticed his rear tire losing pressure. The Civic left the area while the victim pulled over and contacted authorities.
Crime analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center identified a white Honda Civic present near the scene during the time of the shooting. Deputies went to its registered address and interviewed Taft, who admitted to being involved in a road rage incident but denied firing any shots.
A search of Taft’s residence led detectives to recover a Glock 48 handgun with a loaded magazine from his bedroom. Crime scene units also found evidence consistent with gunfire: there was a round hole with bullet spalling fragments visible in the victim’s rear tire.
Taft faces charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and shooting into an occupied vehicle. He was held without bond Tuesday afternoon at Volusia County Branch Jail.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about violent incidents stemming from road rage encounters.
