Volusia County School Board Members Take Oath of Office

Re-elected School Board Members Jamie Haynes and Ruben Colón and newly elected Volusia County School Board Member Jessie Thompson took the oath of office Monday, November 28, 2022.

The oath of office was administered by Volusia County Court Judge A. Christian Miller during the School Board’s annual organizational session.

Also at the meeting, School Board District 1 Member Jamie Haynes was selected as chair which was previously held by Ruben Colón, and School Board District 2 Member Anita Burnette was selected as vice chair which was previously held by Jamie Haynes. The chair and vice chair serve one year in these leadership positions.

Jessie Thompson represents District 3, which includes southeast Volusia County including the areas of Edgewater, New Smyrna Beach, Oak Hill, Samsula, and a portion of Port Orange. She will serve a four-year term on the School Board of Volusia County.

The Pine Ridge High School 9-12th grade a cappella ensemble led by Mr. David Peralta sang the National Anthem, and the DeLand High School JROTC presented the colors at the start of the organizational session.
