A sergeant with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office has been removed from road patrol duties after being arrested for driving under the influence in Colorado.
Sgt. Steven Edgecomb was taken into custody last week by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop near Breckenridge, Colorado. He faces charges of DUI and weaving from a traffic lane.
Following notification of the arrest, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office initiated an internal affairs investigation. This inquiry will remain open until the criminal case concludes.
In response to the incident, Sgt. Edgecomb’s on-duty driving privileges have been revoked, and he has been relieved of all law enforcement responsibilities.
The agency stated: “While a member of law enforcement is entitled to the same due process rights as anyone else, we are sharing this arrest because we recognize law enforcement officers must be held to a higher standard than the general public.”
Sgt. Edgecomb has served with the department since 2006 and has not had previous incidents of this nature.
